Octoberfest?....but it's still September.....

25C here this afternoon and mainly blue skies. Swept the flue on the log burner ready for the inevitable onset of winter and negative temperatures.....probably next week....

Ridiculously hot here, 31º. Our annual local fiesta, San Froilán is from October 4th to 12th. I wonder if the good weather will hold... Today it's too hot for bricolaje ( DIY in English), and fixing the 2cv's exhaust ready for the ITV (MOT) will have to wait until the temperature goes down a bit. Time for a refreshing cup of tea.

As a working car mechanic i find the phrase "2cv" offensive.

I use the term loosely! I've been driving Citroën A series vehicles since I was eighteen, a long time ago, unfortunately, and the Ami 8 I had way back was supposed to produce 35 horsepower, if I remember correctly. My present vehicle is a Spanish-built 2cv6CT. CT stands for Charleston. I believe the term 2cv refers to French fiscal horsepower. A 2cv would pay less road tax than a 3cv. Here, the 2cv is known as a dos caballos, and when I win the lottery I'll add a Dyane, another Ami, and a Méhari to the fleet, all on Spanish plates as it's difficult to import old cars into Galicia!

There's three cars I'd happily own, a 2CV, a Honda Accord tourer, and an original Austin Mini... :D

Actually buying and running them though, ain't going to happen anytime soon... :p

Auto transmission changes depend on the car etc. Some cant easily be drained and have to have the auto sump pan removed. My advice would be if you fluid is clean, the colour it should be(either red or green generally),clear and doesnt smell burnt, ensure its kept topped up and it shouldnt be a problem.(If you have the service booklet it should say how often it is to be changed). The latest Dual shift gearboxes that VW/Audi are using require the gear oil to be changed as part of the major service if i remember rightly. Its rare for me to change auto fluid, i havent done it from what i can remember for some time now. To be fair most auto problems we have, get subbed out to a specialist as working on them requires a very clean environment.

The garage i work in is definitely not a clean environment, its an old style garage from yesteryear, the type you see down cornwall way with two fuel pumps next to the side of the road. We cant compete with the prices specialists charge for gearbox repairs but we do all the other stuff apart from bodywork repairs.

wow .....thanks Pilt...and 2cv for the replys......in fact its a very old Porsche 928 1981 automatic 3 speed model...... so as i'm in the middle of repairing a drive shaft /conection to the torque converter .......i was thinking maybe a trans oil change would be wise....but as the ATF is still cherry red and seems ok........ it seems not to be the case.........thanks for the top tips.........

this really is off topic now.....sorry........Mr blue/Red mod....
