Having just seen another one hop past the front door, I'm reminded that we are currently blessed with a fair few juvenile Common Frogs.

Now I find this weird.

A bit of Googling (Other Search Vehicles are available) says the species can spawn as late as April and that it takes up to three months to form a frog.

But that's still pushing it a bit.

More effects of "Climate Change"?

No new frogs here unfortunately, the spawn that was laid the night before a really hard frost back in late March means only older generations are around.

And there has been some fog round here early morning, but once that clears, the days have been worth the wait.

Scrumpy season soon as well apparently

Well, got my shed's basecoat paintwork finished, will have to decide what colour to paint it later, for now it's just a bright white, if the snow comes early, it'll be camouflaged... :-rofl2

Well, finally got the lawnmower running (been sat waiting for me to finish off fixing it since I got another engine to fit on it), need a new blade boss for it (it's in the post) and needs a gasket kit for the carburettor, but it's running, and I'm happy with that... :D

Shame the weather didn't stay as nice as it was this morning, it was sunny and warm, but now is dull, cold and miserable... :(

Why not paint it sky blue with a big yellowy sun to remind you of summer throughout the darker months? :)

On the other hand it may prove to be exceptionally annoying looking at it and being reminded of summer during the darkest months.

I bet that was written by someone in the south east. In times past when late springs and false springs were more common the frogs like the other animals became opportunist and waited until the weather was right.

That is why they can suddenly appear in their millions at once. The cold spring causes them to spawn all at once and they all mature around the same time. Competition for food can make them more visible because they have to roam a bit further than usual.

Nothing to do with climate change.

I'll pass on that one... :p

I got the mower fully operational yesterday, cut the long (and wet) grass out the front, took some effort cos the mower kept clogging up (no grass box and it wasn't happy with the wet grass) and stalling, but, for a first time using (and fixing up) a petrol lawnmower, I don't think I did too bad... :D

Almost makes me want to start buying them in cheap, fixing them up and selling them on for a profit . . . . . . . . . nah... :-rofl2

Blowing hard here on and off, and the leaves have started coming down off the trees already. Autumn is almost upon us :(

Yep, it's windy here too, had to do some fettling to my bedroom window to get it to shut properly (one good thing about the old house, the windows were in better shape!!!), and it's cold, not seen any leaves falling off of their own accord though, just ones that have been ripped off in the strong gusts...

The water from the mains tap is getting cooler and in a few weeks will be freezing cold on my poor hands. :(

Will there be a new thead soon to match the bbq summer lots idea of the seasons or will it change at the equinox in line with natures idea of seasons?!

I suspect if we were getting paid for considering such questions as part of our job, we could spin it out into a 500 page consultation exercise which could run for several years before avoiding an actual conclusion in an unreadable 900 page final report which comes to an ambiguous conclusion so is not so final after all, leaving the door open to a repeat exercise the following year. Just like the bbq summer people do.

:-lol

Yellow gale warnings over all of Scotland, northwest England & into North Wales for Sunday / Monday.

The Tour Of Britain cycle race starts Sunday - it'll be passing the end of our road so we shall be going out to cheer the blokes on :)

Take a lifebelt or two, and a winch.

It's somewhat sunny here too, but the clouds are building up to something nasty...
