So if i have a dreambox which i do, do i just have to put a particular image on it and point my dish to 27.5 w to pick up all the bbc etc here on tenerife using say a 1.2 m dish? . So basically with bbc etc moving sats it will be irrelavant here in the canaries as they can pick up the other sat 27.5? using smaller dishes than i have now or will this sat be tweaked in someway too as to not be picked up here. Thanks in advance guys.

Given the current vogue for using technological advances to reduce overspill even more than hitherto, it would be surprising if the 27.5W loophole weren't also subjected to more stringent control once it becomes common knowledge that it is being exploited.

Exactly right. It wouldn't surprise me if they powervu'd it up or something similar. Mind you, as long as it's encrypted they probably wouldn't be too bothered unless instructed to by ofcom or whoever controls the copyright.

Are these channels on this sat likely to go when the new 28.2 2 f starts as dont want to buy another box if the channels are only going to be there for a couple of weeks. Are the channels all still coming through fine still on this sat 27.5w.

Will it work on a spiderbox or which is the best suitable also this maybe thick but does it need internet to the box or just stand alone just thinking maybe it needs updates. Thanks for your quick reply.

It'll be fine until it goes mainstream - once the dealers start selling boxes specifically for the 27.5W services you can bet the encryption will be beefed up. And they will.

Sorry AS what does that mean ? would you buy a box for this or do you think by doing this it will only last short term. Not sure what the beefed up means? and all sat companies here say there wont be any change to getting BBC etc here will they be relying on 27.5 w or not to get it. They use either re-broadcast signals and complexes use channel masters who would get what with what. Thanks all.

At the moment the 27.5W services are only available to hobbyists in the know of how to open it. (its like the old dreambox situation from a few years ago)

Then rthe dealers looking to make a quick buck got in on the act, and started selling cheap receivers with plug and go access. result - lots of the encrptions were tightened up fairly rapidly.

The same will happen with 27.5W. Once the Spanish dealers start selling dedicated receivers set up for 27.5W the BBC will increase the encryption security. And the dealers will sell them sooner or later.

They can change the encryption on this internal-backup transponder very easily ! No cards etc. So buying a box just for this one ? Rather not...

I dont think so. That would be too expensive (licence cost for Nagra). They also would need to install new equipment. There are easier and cheaper ways, for example just changing the code...

I don't really see why. There FTA on the UK spot at 28.2ºE and the BBC are happy, so why would they worry too much about reception of the UK spot at 27.5ºW ?

because it can be recieved further afield so they wont want it accessable to loads

the codes arent that hard to crack so it be better going to a new system or spot

as long as this is limited to some technical interested people, they wont care at all. I remember a text on the BBC reception page way back in 2003 when the BBC channels dropped the encryption on 28.2 east, saying something like people have always received our signals in fringe areas (probably refering to France etc) when they were asked about over-spill of then 2D.
It only always gets problematic when people start making money with it, ie indeed selling boxes etc. This is the point they usually feel the need to act.

it is a spot beam, even called so by Intelsat: Spot 1.

Oh come on - it covers from Greenland in the west to Russia in the east, and from Iceland in the north to Morocco in the south - all at high power.

No matter what the beam is called by Intelsat that is NOT a spotbeam :-rofl2
