Astra 2F Testing Reception Reports

To everyone , with all your knowledge of testing , what is your educated guess as to when 2F is likely to move to 28.2 . I am off to Cala d'or in Mallorca soon and I am not there long before I am back to sunny uk .

Just in case anyone thought I was serious, it is still active on 12490H. Also the move is going to take at least 10 days.

It looks like they are not hanging around with the testing so my uneducated guess is Astra 2D is knackered and the want 2F to back up 1N over the Christmas period.

So I would say we should see 2F active late November early December with only a few transponders switched on. There won’t be too many changes before Christmas as they won’t want to sort out problems over the holiday period when they are short staffed.

Then expect more transponders to become active early 2012.

I presume you mean 2013 Terry or are you still recovering from last years New Years celebrations....Last year nothing happened with 1N after about mid December....until the beginning of January. I expect a lot of activity in November- may have to take a month off

1N was not in a hurry, as long as it was ready before the Olympics, 2F could not meet that demand . Now they seem to be under pressure to deliver 2F asap. They will not rush the tests, but once tests are completed and positive 2F can take all of 1N 's tasks within weeks after deployment at 28.2 -should SES wish to do so. There might be an urgent need for 1N at 19.2 even though planning was that 1N should wait for 2E to arrive on 28.2

NOPE ! you dont backup one brand new sat with another band new sat .... ASTRA1N is going home where they seem to need it dam quick (still not sure why might just be need more channels in germania ??). and its got to be there up and running by XMAS ....so
very rapid take over of all 1N traffic onto 2F along with all 2A traffic ....and i think 2C will come back as well until 2E takes over
total transfer from 1N to 2F on 15th of november i think ...

nowhere have i read that 1N is staying till 2E -1N is going back to germania ....asap

Being not a specialist or anything when it does move anyone any ideas what size dishes we will need in Tenerife for BBc1 throught to channel 5 ? and will it effect sly sports. Thanks in advance.

no one knows until it live we dnt know, it possible you could be talking 3m dish or you could get it with 1m dish we dnt know we have speculated but no one know really. its even possible you might not get it full stop.

sky sports you wont lose it on eurpeon beam which i think needs 1m dish where oyu are but the free to air channels will be on the uk spot which we dnt know how it will work yet

For the PSB channels no-one knows. You may find things are much as they are now.

However I suspect you will suffer interference from the enhanced coverage west african beam if SES do frequency re-use between the UK & West Africa spots.

Its all guesswork at the moment - we just dont have enough information.

The widebeam stuff should stay more or less as it is atm
