Now the vis is improving I can see these are all C-Band(?) mesh dishes. Nothing obvious on the rooftops above the BBC and Virgin media pins on Google Maps.

I am assuming these are in the 8-10' range, judging by the actuator gearbox size, and so the feedhorn assembly is around 14-18" in diameter, a bit on the large size for the usual C band feed covers.

But only if you if you spray the washing with hair lacquer before they thaw out! :D
OTOH, whether you can actually wear the garments after that is TBD :D

I am incredulous at the gross over-reaction these days to what, all things considered, is minor snowfall.

In the winter of 63 we had sub-zero temperatures predominating for several months plus five or six feet of snow, plus blizzards. No plague of locusts, though. And the schools did not close. Markets did not close. Life carried on.

Don't I bloody know it. My primary school stayed resolutely open. What did annoy me was that the trains bringing me my comics didn't get to the north of England.

Standard drying practice north of 60. Let it freeze then beat it to remove ice.

Have to agree - if the 1963 Winter is the one I remember, we "only" had about 3ft in the back garden in W. Oxfordshire :)
PS: the Winter of 1968/69 was "quite" severe as well IIRC!
