Similar idea - its got 3 shelves in it so SWMBO can start her seedlings off before they go up to her allotment.

During the winter it has an old length of satellite coax looped around it and tied onto the fence to stop it blowing over! :D

The first decent Saturday in weeks and I finally got a chance to have a look for 52.5E. It was most pleasant when the sun was shining but when the clouds got in the way the wind was exceedingly chilly.

Anyway heres the temporary lashup I put together to have a look at 53/52.5E Its an 80cm dish held up by the Workmate!

I was thrilled to bits to see Uzbek TV again on AM22 & I was pleased to find the old Vantage rx would see the 44950 symbol rate Russian channels on 11044V.

Then I connected up the fta HD box and had a look for the fta Saudi sports channels on the European beam of Yahsat 1A @ 52.5E

A very easy catch indeed even on a somewhet less that perfect dish - its got a big dent in the rim :D

nice one --
those old 80 c.m. mesh dishes give good performance -- i have an identical one --
and in the past used it to pick up the S.A.B.C news channel when it was 68.5 east

cheers ----

No chance of 68E here - theres a hill in the way. Im going to try for 57E tomorrow, but Id be surprised if I can see that far around.

Ive got a Visio Bisat dish in the shed - That might get installed for 42E / 53E as I found the Russian / Uzbek stuff absolutely fascinating :-D

Yes, I've got the same one and Mike is using it to get 75 and 70E, the performance has always impressed me and yet I can't even remember how I came by it! Does anyone know what the brand was or who sold them?

From memory Qellat is the strongest signal I get from that one, Asia TV, Duhok and Silemani are the other ones available and occasional feeds. Look forward to seeing how you get on.

Gloriously sunny clear morning here, visibility is excellent and I can see shipping turning out of the English Channel seperation scheme heading south to Le Havre right to the point they disappear over the horizon 31 miles away. Could be a good satellite 'DX' day.

I've never seen Qellat but Asia TV, Duhok and Silemani all come in at over 11dB here using the 1.2M and Dr.HD.

Very clear morning here too but with a stiff and chilly Easterly breeze. Not that it's put off the farmer ploughing and seeding the field adjacent to my house with maize. About two weeks later than usual which is no doubt due to the cold and rain we've had.

Yes the do that when at the extremes of the arc - its because the lnb arm is offset by around 20 degrees or so.

I was given that particular dish - it had been bent almost double & I spent a couple of hours one afternoon straightening it out. Its not perfect but it does for what I need it for.

Its gone windy & cloudy this morning so the attempt on 57E may have to wait.

No - as you can see from the photo it was picking a signal up right then - which happened to be Saudi Sports HD2 on Yahsat 1A.

It does look very strange though! :D

Offset arm >> Angle of incidence = Angle of reflection

The dish is "looking" in the direction of the upper dotted line in this pic.

As we seem to be touching on dishes, during the GP I got a call from Chris my mechanic (could have been timed better). He'd hit his $ky dish, misaligned it and couldn't get it locked on signal again. Knowing it was quite low down I asked "Did you hit it with your head?" "No" came the reply, "a tractor". Not a lot you can say after that but I'll find out how bad it is tomorrow a.m.

Heres a better version of the dish pic rotated to show how the 53E dish is working even though it appears to be looking at the ground.

..Well ..all work has come to a stop ..
Those winds you reported earlier AS ..have made it to Manchester ..
Just got a face full of galvanising spray paint as a gust suddenly whipped round and blew the wing I was working on ...clear across the yard ..
Luckily no damage done ...but will have to rub part of it down again ..as the paint hadn't had time to harden.
Oh for a few consecutive days of perfect weather ..
If it aint raining its windy and vice versa.
No rain so far ..but ..there's time yet.
rgds
BBQ summer indeed ...mutter ..mutter mutter...
Humph! Humbug!
