Well it looks like McLaren and Lewis have been a little economic with the truth, a bit like Hamilton's "I'm moving from England purely because I am always recognized" fib.:)

Not a good start to a season, makes everyone who has been arguing in their defence think twice about doing it next time.

The FIA have revealed details of the new evidence that prompted stewards to strip McLaren's Lewis Hamilton of this third place in the Australian Grand Prix and hand the place back to Toyota's Jarno Trulli, who had originally been penalized for passing Hamilton under the safety car.According to the FIA, in the original enquiry into the incident, both Hamilton and McLaren stated that they had not deliberately let Trulli pass...

As much as I hate to say it, the stewards have got it right this time.

EDIT - It seems very odd to me, however, that the stewards didn't request the radio as a matter of procedure. Although McLaren's action post-race appear to be defensive, you can not say that they appear to act against common understanding of the rules during the event.

Sorry I cannot agree Salty, the stewards are the ones that have cocked this up completely, it is the race stewards responsibility to assemble all the facts in the matter and then pass judgement on the incident, quite clearly this directive has not been followed to the letter before taking their original decision otherwise they would have known what they are now claiming McLaren witheld from them, they are covering the backs of the stewards with this foolish decision. The worst that should have happened is that Trulli was re-instated to 3rd and Hamilton to 4th.

During the live race the viewing public were told about the pit to car messages so for the stewards to then turn round and say they were misled is just beyond belief.

I think it's more a case, from the stewards' POV, that McLaren weren't forthcoming with that evidence. Having said that, I wholeheartedly agree that it should be basic procedure that all on-board and off-board evidence is required to be given to and analysed by the stewards. One hopes that the FIA, and to a greater extent the teams themselves in the form of FOTA, look at the whole stewarding set-up much more closely and reform a system that appears no longer fit for purpose.

Leaving aside the issue of the withholding of details by McClaren, why couldn't they just have said to Trulli that he would lose a place and be done with it, particularly as there was very little of the race still to run. The incident enquiry would have finished there and then and everyone would have been happy.

Seems to me they have now made things so complex, that they don't fully understand the rules themselves.

OK i dont totally understand the rules or even the politics of F1, but i dont understand what happened?

whatever happens in a race, the only thing important is what orders the cars come in?? and that the drivers drive responsibly.

well thats my opinion anyway.... why do they have to submit reports anyway?

for example, if Lewis had come last because his gearbox was damaged.
then the fact is he came last, its a problem for him, his fans and the team he drives for.
why does he have to explain himself to the FIA... as long as he didnt lose his temper and ram another car or fail to let them pass etc its a done deal.

i dont get it :( can someone explain it ( F1 for dummies style lol)

McLaren have come clean now and it was some guy that has been with them 35 years (too long) who co-ersed Lewis into being economical with the truth. I still think it is poor judgement on the part of the stewards initially but not nice for the sport in general

This video pretty much explains it - _http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7979304.stm

The reason that Hamilton let Trulli through was that Trulli spun off the track during the time that the safety car was out on track. Hamilton past Trulli, but because the safety car was out, McLaren and Hamilton thought they had to give the place back to Trulli as overtaking is not allowed when the safety is on track. By letting Trulli past, McLaren and Hamilton effectively forced Trulli to break the rules.

However, it's not the incident itself which has caused Hamilton and McLaren to be penalised, but McLaren's initial withholding of radio transmissions which clearly indicates the McLaren ordered Hamilton to slow and let Trulli pass.

Brawn GPs Jenson Button and Toyotas Jarno Trulli fought a tense battle for supremacy in Sepang qualifying on Saturday afternoon, with pole position finally falling to the Briton in 1m 35.181s. It was his second consecutive pole for Button, and the fifth of his career. Trulli's final effort yielded 1m 35.273s, good enough to take second place from Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull, which the German had lapped in 1m 35.518s...

It was always likely that the rain would affect Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix, but nobody expected the precipitation to play such a key role in a race that was full of excitement. The management of pit stops at Sepang proved crucial as conditions changed as Brawn GP's Jenson Button won amid much confusion as the race was red flagged after 32 laps...

F1 SupaLiga 2009

Rain brought an abrupt end to the second race of the season, and in doing so gave Jenson Button his second consecutive victory, albeit with half points awarded as a consequence of the drivers being unable to complete three quarters of the distance.

In SupaLiga, despite the late entry of newcomers BTTR, and Dazdazdazzy's retrospective points which saw him top the table and install him as the all-time highest race scorer in SupaLiga, it was the initial league leader after Australia - misterminibus - whose team are back on top.

Pro-Drive scored 152pts today, while BTTR could only manage 122pts in a season in which the average score is an astronomic 116pts!!! BTTR fall to 3rd, a place behind joint GP top scorer Honda-Williams.

kleefarr's and my team, Auto-Dynamo, both booked 157pts in Malaysia, and as kleefarr is now 11pts off the top, I moved up to 5th place. Two points more and just above me are the Tossers.

Things are getting better for Creatures, Burnin' Rubber and Pretty Boy Flyers, as kreacher, rolfw and john_graydon all moved up 4 places. Champions Team Oily had a bad day and could only score 97pts, while last season's runners-up F1 Aberdeen went down 3 slots to 7th despite taking 121pts today. And finally, the record for most centuries in one race was broken again today - 16 out of 21!

The FIA International Court of Appeal (ICA) has rejected protests against the diffusers used by the Brawn, Toyota and Williams teams, after concluding that their 'double decker' designs comply with the 2009 regulations.BMW Sauber, Ferrari, Red Bull and Renault had all questioned the legality of the diffusers, but following Tuesday's hearing in Paris, the ICA decided that race stewards in Australia and Malaysia had made the right call in declaring them legal...

Sebastian Vettel put himself on pole position for the first time since Monza last year in a gripping qualifying session in Shanghai on Saturday afternoon, giving Red Bull Racing their maiden P1 grid slot. The German's sole flying lap of Q3 - a 1m 36.184s - was enough to take the honours from team mate Mark Webber, who was beaten to P2 at the death by a flying Fernando Alonso for Renault...

He did it in the wet for Toro Rosso at Monza last year. Now Sebastian Vettel has done it in the wet for Red Bull in Shanghai. The young German has scored the team's maiden win after a rain-drenched Chinese Grand Prix, with team mate Mark Webber following him home in second.Outpaced by the RB5s, the Brawns of Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello had to be content with third and fourth places. McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton finished fifth and sixth respectively...

Full table and graph attached

Despite Red Bull's 1-2 in the rain-soaked, although thankfully not abandoned, Chinese GP, it was an all-Brawn selection which many people went for and prospered with.

However, the top scoring team in China, BTTR and it's manager Dazdazdazzy, did predict Red Bull would give him wings, choosing Vettel and taking home 163 points in the process.

But despite setting the standard BTTR remain in 3rd, behind Pro-Drive and Honda-Williams, as misterminibus and kleefarr hold on to 1st and 2nd. The leading pair both scored 154pts, the same score which all but one of the all-Brawn selecters achieved - my Auto-Dynamo team earned 5 more as a result of guessing Rubens Barrichello would qualify in 4th ;)!

Highest climber this race is bite's Superkomanda (no prizes for guessing who he picked!), whilst defending champions Team Oily are still well off the pace in 16th.
