why would it be a problem to have threaded rod as opposed to no thread - its only the elevation angle - once set, its set, surely it doesnt matter if its threaded? does it....
You're right , no problem for the elevation adjustment , I make a mistake thinking it was the AZ movement .

Thats right it wouldn,t be a problem - with the elevation fixed .....

The reason i replaced mine. and probably part of the reason it had become worn is that i have an elevation jack attached to my mount for fine tuning etc ... so iv removed the adjusting nuts - and the pivot bolt is not quite fully tightened .....

The dish was getting a quite noticeable side to side wobble on windy days .

mine came with elevation jack, that might be what caused it to jam over time - i wont be using elevation jack (to start with anyway)

im still perplexed as to why the bolt got so jammed, it was bone dry maybe it should be greased.

All Channel Master mounts that I know of have been zinc galvanised, to a very high quality. Your's isn't and so I suspect it isn't the genuine article.

Did you get a picture of the bolt head before hammering ? It should also have a set of marks that denote the type and quality.

I've just been out in the yard (it's sunny :D ) and these are the bolts on three of the dishes outside, first one the CM 2.4, the Chinese 3m and the Prodelin 1.8m (anodised). I should know what the markings mean but it's been a really long time since I needed to.

The Prodelin and Chinese mounts have been outdoors for upwards of ten years, all bolts can still be undone with a decent spanner and there are only the smallest marks on the zinc surfaces, most likely down to previous assembly or poor storage as opposed to quality control since none were new when I got them.

8.8 tensile bolt should be fine (that's what 8.8 stands for in the picture from the CM 2.4 above).

Are there any others on the mount with similar markings ? CM mounts have them on all, the locking bar end bolt is one that should be of a similar tensile strength.

Just a thought from looking at the picture of the pole, is part of the pole going to be set into the concrete?
If it is, then it might be safe to attach some type of anti spin metalwork to prevent any slight chance of it spinning in the hole over an extended period of time

A couple of holes in the pole below surface level with bolts projecting from them will do the trick.

no mate, the pole slots over an NPRM which came with the deal - the NPRM will then go onto concrete base further up garden on the lawn.

i will be buidling base over next couple of days - the pole on its own, isn't long enough really otherwise

Can't see the bolt head in that picture.

Better this thread for detail on the polarmount origins.

you've now got me thinking, i still have a 3.5 pole which I could drill through and put rods through and cement in.

i will measure length to see what there is to play with.

how deep would i need to accommodate such a weighty beast...?

I think the recommended guideline is one third of the pole length in the concrete, two thirds of the pole length above the surface of the concrete.
Obviously, your two thirds of pole length above the concrete needs to be tall enough to give the 1.8m dish LNB boom arm ground clearance for arc extremities (unless you plan to install it inverted).
