Ah, may be why he has 24 of them.
He's offered me one with lots of licenses for just over a grand, obviously shipping and custom charges on top.

What currency was "the grand" ?

It was 1500 usa dollars just about 1100 uk pounds.
Up for sale at 2999 usa dollars but he sent me an offer.
Really???? Are you sure it is true? If so, JUMP IMMEDIATELY!!
Firstly get the hardware, then you will think to upgrades.
But, are you sure that it is in good conditions? Also, is it NS2000 or NS3000?

Could you please put me in contact with this person? Please give me such link or email address, maybe in a private conversation?
I'm looking for a NS3000, so I would like to speak with him and understand if he's joking or not.
Thanks.

Thanks.

He is not joking, it is a genuine eBay listing.
Search eBay global for Novelsat and they will come up in the search.

Yes I saw that. @duaneclaude sent me the link (thank you so much!).
So it seems an excellent offer. I just sent a message to the seller, no reply yet but today it's Sunday. Maybe tomorrow? We will see.

No, this is not correct, you do not need a static IP.

If you have Team Viewer on a local PC, all upgrades that need to be done by Novelsat can be done over a Team Viewer connection.
All you need to do is to enter the local IP address (LAN) of the NS2000 and Novelsat can login by Team Viewer to the local PC then access the NS2000.

How do I know this, because I have done it.
i guess if you bought a demod at a media auction you have no way to get updates

Depends on what sort of updates you want.

If you want firmware updates for the unit Novelsat will do that provided there is a service plan in place for the unit.
If there is no service plan in place you would need to take one out with Novelsat, then they would update the firmware.

Exactly the same for new licenses eventually required.

I'm just wondering that to this day no-one has not tried to reverse engineer these receivers. We even don't know what components are used, commonly available or proprietary ones. Most important is demodulator chip or sub-unit.

Yes, they are on 7.0E.

Frequencies and SR are probably somewhere near to what I have listed below but the SR's are only my estimates, not yet tested with an NS2000 demodulator to confirm SR's

12649V, with SR of 22856 or 28570
12691V with SR of 35294 or 34285

I can confirm the seond one:
12691V SR 35294, just locked.
Obviously they use DRM, so no chance to decode any service into the mux.
Instead, we are not able to lock 12649V, tested all possible symbol rates between 18000 and 38000, step of 50. No way.
Are you sure it is NS3/NS4? Possibly DVB-S2X?

Yes, but this receiver (and the way used to make upgrades) is not intended for the average guy in the street.

That is the problem of the average guy in the street, it is up to them to resolve it.
Joe Public on his own has got no chance, they need to cultivate useful contacts who are prepared to assist, usually for a facilitation fee.

Isn't receiving the signal just part 1 though? I assume the feeds inside are still BISS, and then couldn't they just use BISS CA and then thats it really made impossible.
